Our Vision

'Peaceful upbringings
for every
Australian child'

our mission

1 Core Belief:

The Family Peace Foundation believes every Australian child has a basic human right to a peaceful upbringing in a home where they receive a loving, caring and well balanced childhood.

2 The Issue:

Over one million Australian children are raised in family violence, whilst many more are regularly exposed to high levels of family conflict, which amongst other things have been linked to child and adolescent depressive symptoms.

3 The Purpose:

The Foundation’s purpose is to give these affected children a voice, in the hope that their parents will listen and, where appropriate, modify their behavior, ensuring their children receive the peaceful and positive upbringings they deserve.

Over time, the Foundation’s strategy is to broadcast anonymous children’s voices in 30 second announcements, airing on most commercial radio stations across Australia, multiple times per day.

The children’s radio messages express how they would like their family life to be improved and the impact excessive family conflict and/or violence is having on their upbringings.

The broadcasts address, from a child’s perspective, many of the negative impacts on children’s peace and sense of wellbeing in their families ranging from issues such as warring and or divorcing parents, excessive alcohol, undue financial stress, lack of mutual respect, poor communication skills and lack of spending regular quality time together.

The Foundation is driven in its belief that the vast majority of Australian parents want what is best for their children and in many cases are simply oblivious to or underestimate the damage excessive family conflict has on their children’s well-being, and when they become aware, will change their behavior for the benefit of themselves and their children.

Additionally, for those needing professional help with changing individual or family behavior, the Foundation’s website provides links to a wide range of appropriately resourced and qualified support agencies.

Furthermore, the Foundation’s prolific radio broadcasts also have the added benefit of ensuring that both public and Government focus will not diminish until these chronic family issues are solved.

The content for the radio broadcasts is sourced from a combination of feedback from children, evidence based research, child and adolescent professionals and generally accepted sound family values.
The Foundation’s Founders are currently underwriting the cost of the Victorian broadcasts.  It is their aim to attract other like-minded philanthropist, business people and the general public to fund the broadcasts across the entire nation.
Regular six monthly surveys are conducted to determine that the content and frequency of the radio broadcasts continue to be both relevant and beneficial to a large proportion of the nation’s families.

The Foundation believes success will take 20 to 30 years to achieve and is committed to this long term goal.

Over this time, the Foundation’s ultimate objective is to have played a small yet significant role in ensuring millions more Australian children receive the peaceful upbringings they deserve.

Critical measures will include but not be limited to; a dramatic decline in adolescent depression and suicide, a significant reduction in divorce rates and for high levels of family conflict and violence statistics to be a small fraction of their current numbers.

Ultimately over time, as the vast majority of family homes across the nation become more peaceful, schools, workplaces and whole communities will follow suit leading to a more peaceful, safe and prosperous society for all future generations of Australian children.

Teddy – Respect

Hello I’m Teddy for the Family Peace Foundation.
I’m 9 years old.
My big brother Tim is 15.
Most of the time he treats me like dirt.
I cry myself to sleep most nights when he’s been mean to me – but I’d never let him see me.
As for mum and dad, they just don’t seem to understand.
If only they knew how much it hurts.
If only they knew.

Family Peace – do it for your kids.
